FAQ · THE STRAIGHT ANSWERS
QUESTIONS PEOPLE
ACTUALLY ASK.
Every question below has landed in our WhatsApp at least once, several of them at 11pm from a production manager having a moment. Here are the straight answers — funny where possible, deadly accurate where it counts.
📋 Do I need a permit to film in Spain?
Almost always yes — public spaces, drones, beaches and road closures all have paperwork attached, and it varies by town hall. The good news: that paperwork is our love language. We handle permits in Spanish, with officials who know us, usually faster than you'd believe.
🎥 How fast can you crew up a shoot?
A full bilingual documentary unit inside 36 hours is on our receipts. Standard lead times are comfortably shorter than flying a crew from the UK — and nobody gets sunstroke by Wednesday.
✨ Are you a fixer or a production company?
Both, and that's the whole point. Award-winning creative director AND hands-on fixer — never one without the other. You get logistics with senior editorial judgement attached, which no van-booker on this coast can offer.
📋 Can you fly drones on the Costa del Sol?
Yes — with licensed pilots and the right flight permissions, both of which we arrange. Spanish airspace rules are strict and town-specific; winging it is how productions end up in the local paper for the wrong reasons.
🇪 Do you only work in Marbella and Fuengirola?
That's home turf, but we work across Málaga, Puerto Banús, the campo, the white villages and wider Andalucía. If it's within a tank of diesel of the coast, we've probably already scouted it.
✨ What languages do you work in?
English and Spanish, fluently and simultaneously — including the crucial third language of Andalusian town-hall bureaucracy.
💡 Do you do development as well as servicing?
It's our favourite question. Yes: an active slate of formats and documentaries built from this coast's stories, developed by a senior development producer with twenty years of UK broadcast credits. Bring us a brief or a blank page.
🍤 What's with the prawns?
300 prawns. One hour. One saint's day when the whole coast was shut. We delivered. It's our origin story and we will never stop mentioning it.
✨ Is the peach emoji what we think it is?
It's a peach. We're a family company. A cheeky one, but a family one. Any further questions on this topic will be answered with the same face your nan gives you when you swear at Christmas.
✨ Is this all jokes, or are you actually a safe pair of hands?
Both — that's the trick. Twenty years of UK broadcast delivery (BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5, ITV), roughly twenty commissions, brand work for British Airways and Virgin, and a delivery record with no asterisks on it. The jokes are how we talk. The call sheets, budgets, permits and delivered masters are how we work. Broadcasters don't rebook fixers for the banter.
✨ Who actually does the work at Ballsy.tv?
Bear. Next question. He's a Pomeranian, he's the Grafter, he's first in and last out, and the timesheets don't lie. The humans handle admin, catering, wardrobe and fan mail. Meet him properly here — and no, this is not a joke. It's an org chart.
